Beautiful Sets of Hand-Painted Wooden Russian Matryoshka Dolls from the Former USSR. The seller purchased the dolls in Moscow around 1980 while on a diplomatic assignment to the former USSR for the United Nations. Photographs show the Matryoshka dolls in three rows. The front row consists of six dolls of decreasing size from left to right, which all fit within the doll at the left. The largest doll on the left of this set measures 3 inches in height; and the six dolls together weigh 1.0 oz. The middle row of dolls consist of a set of 4 dolls of which the smaller dolls fit within the larger doll at the left. The larger doll of this set measures 2 3/4 inches in height; and the 4 dolls together weigh 0.7 oz. The doll in the back row of the photographs is unique; and the seller cannot explain it's design. The unit on the left of the back row fits within the doll on the right. This doll measures 3 inches in height and weighs 1.2 oz. with the inner piece in place. Photographs show the front and rear of the dolls. The dolls will be shipped with tissue paper within each doll to prevent movement of the smaller dolls within the larger ones during shipping.
